Berlin or Bust

Well, the Chicago adventure has run its course. Off to Berlin, where I will be joining the Freie Universität faculty as a Juniorprofessur of South Asia history in the Department of History and Cultural Studies and the Berlin Graduate School of Muslim Cultures and Societies.

Which means: Transitions!

The good news, I presume, is that CM will go on – perhaps with a stronger Eurabian focus. To shore up my U.S. base, I am bringing on a new guest writer on CM and will also persuade lapata and farangi to re-awaken from their long slumber.

The bad news is … there is no bad news! It is 130bpm on ze kraftwerk machine all the way to Berlin!

What? a job? What is this 1998?

1. Make your blog your full time job,
2. write the occasional book on the side
3. ???
4. Profit!

mubarakbad, Sepoy.

come back to the windy city now and again when you need your hair or feathers ruffled up. I know it will miss you.

(we, insyallah and the creek don’t rise, won’t, I hope. )

may Berlin keep you in the best of health and spirits. Bon Voyage.

Congratulations!

As a long-time reader of your excellent blog, I am looking forward to see what the more Eurabian (lol) focus will bring.

Also, as someone who has just moved to Germany as well after a PhD in the UK, I hope your transition goes smoothly indeed. Me and my wife live relatively close to Berlin, and it would be a pleasure to meet you, if you are ever up for it – she has done a fair ammount of work on (and in) Pakistan, and it would be lovely to chat with you.

My email is danielfrp@gmail.com.

Once again, congratulations! FU made an excellent decision, and I’m sure you’ll have plenty of opportunities ahead of you in Berlin, where serious Pakiatn expertise is somewhat lacking.

Cheers, and the best of luck,

Daniel

We really must start working on your Turkish, so I’ll echo szerelem: tebrikler! I reiterate my call for a currywurst tag.

Welcome to Europe! Avoid the Currywurst, it’s not as interesting as it sounds… or rather it is interesting, but in the wrong way. But definitely attempt to look serious and hypermasculine while sipping on a bright pink Berliner Weisse!

Congrats Manan!

Wonderful news. Do stop by San Francisco on your trips back here, which I hope will be frequent.

Cheers
Rohit

Be sure to waste no time in organizing some conferences over there, so we can come and show ‘em how it’s done!

Congratulations! I’d say welcome to Berlin, but I’m moving out of the city next week. I’m sure you’ll find something to love here.

28 Q June 23, 2009 at 4:36 am

Congrates! Make sure you get a place in East Berlin, it’s more happening.

i’m late in joining in the party — shabash/mabruk! south asian studies is only growing stronger and more dynamic in Germany, and i have several friends on fellowships there now. you will undoubtedly find yourself in fantastic company!
