And what exactly was wrong with NAFTA, GATT and WTO aside from the fact that they've bought prosperity to large swathes of the world that had never seen it. Leftist rhetoric on this is great but the downside of 50/hr Union guaranteed wages is 100 dollar shirts and Ford cars aside from a world that is cut off from the bounty that only the West can enjoy.

Farangi, I find your mournful, elegiac writing to be lovely and completely off-base. There's nothing wrong with the U.S. economy that Robert Rubin-style economic policies couldn't fix in a couple of years. That the economic growth following the 2001-2002 recession was fairly anemic wasn't a sign of anything more than a set of incompetents at the helm, and I suspect that at some level you know that.

As emotionally satisfying as it is to say, "Both parties are corporate tools, and we've labored under faceless overlords ever since They killed our beloved [centrist, anti-communist] Kennedys," you know very well that there's a tremendous difference between something like a competent technocratic government and the clowns currently in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

We live in such a cynical time that we have to qualify our excitment about politics but here it goes: I know that it might be too early and too naive to hope that Obama will bring postive change for the world, not just the U.S. but I was totally thrilled at his victory in Iowa and his speech did bring me to tears.
I keep thinking that Musharraf would have difficulty creating a simple universe of 'Islamic terrorists and simple peasants who love him" with someone like Obama who has lived in the real world of Indonesia, Kansas and south side of Chicago.

A quick note about Edwards making million, according to a colleague of mine who knows such things most of his millions were made fighting a good cause, big corporations etc.,

Change and experience in this instance signifying not "What is your experience in changing things?", but "We are tired of your experience, please change things by going away!" Clinton's big mistake is not recognizing that Obama embodies change for many people, and countering that with an ineffective "I've been making change for the last 36 years" makes her sound like she's a bus driver or a convenience store clerk.
